Methodology and Development of Tobacco Related Biomarkers

What is the purpose of the study?

The study will develop new laboratory tests to understand how using tobacco products affect your body. 

How often are the clinic visits?

You will attend at least 1 visit and up to 6 clinic visits. The exact number of visits will be indicated after determining your eligibility for participation. 

What will I be doing in the study?

You will be interviewed or asked to complete questionnaires that ask personal questions such as demographics, tobacco use history, health history, prescription and over-the-counter medication use, diet, nutritional supplements, caffeine intake, occupational exposure to chemicals and tobacco smoker, exercise habits, and use of alcohol. Cells from your mouth, saliva, blood and urine samples will be collected from you.

Will I be compensated?

You will receive $10 per visit to cover your transportation costs. Other compensation will depend on which samples are collected when you are in the study. You will receive $20 for a blood sample; $10 for spot urine sample; $25 for a 24 hour urine collection; $10 for cheek cells and $10 for a saliva sample.
